DAVID (a.k.a. King David)
Guitar/Vocals & Songwriter
David Salvatierra started playing guitar when he was 12 years old. He remembers stealing his mothers' cigarettes to trade them for lessons from some guys from Arkansas.
David is a native of the bay area, and, even though he started guitar at an early age, and performed with a few giggin' bands through the years (Size 5 and The Ravin Blues), he decided to give it up in 1975 for 15 years. He even sold all of his equipment. It took a vacation to Hawaii to get it back in his blood, after hearing a live band, and he said, "I'm back!"
David started studying the Blues under Johnny Garcia (his mentor) who is a famous Blues stringer from San Jose. David has always been partial to the Blues, and still plays with a Blues band called Taylor Street.
One of David's biggest past-times is writing music. He currently has fifteen songs in his repetroire. He finds it extremely challenging to write, especially without having a formal musical background. However, it is very rewarding when the song actually comes together.
You can hear some of David's originals in The Danny Hansen Band. He has been inspired to practice, write, and perform more with his friends in DHB, and the experience has been some of the most fun he's had in his life. His favorite moments when performing with DHB, is when he closes his eyes and savors the sound and the moment. It has truly been something he's always wanted to do.
With his energy and talent, it's always party time for King David!!!
Let the good times roll.
